Biographical Statement
Retno Setiowati is an experienced analyst at the Bureau of Development and Environmental Affairs, Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, specializing in public works, spatial planning, land affairs, environment, and forestry. She is a Research Associate at CSEAS Indonesia.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) (2005), a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Indonesia (UI) (2019), and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Environmental Science from UI (2022). Her doctoral research focused on the valuation of urban green spaces using a preference-based approach in Jakarta, providing critical insights into the socio-environmental benefits of urban green infrastructure.
Retno has actively participated in international programs and conferences, including the Dutch Training and Exposure Program (DUTEP) 2024 in Rotterdam, focusing on integrated water management, nature-based solution for coastal defense, and the UNFCCC COP28 in Dubai (2023), where she contributed to discussions on global climate adaptation strategies. She has also presented her research at the international conference and seminars hosted by Kyoto University and the University of Indonesia.
In addition to her professional and academic roles, Retno serves as a judge for international events organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) and as an assessor for the UI GreenMetric University Ranking, evaluating universities’ sustainability performance. She is also an active reviewer for leading scientific journals, including Urban Greening & Urban Forestry (Elsevier, Q1) and The Lancet Regional Health – Southeast Asia (Elsevier, Q1).
