Biographical Statement
Jo Kumala Dewi is a senior environmental and social development expert with more than 35 years of professional experience in the environmental and forestry sector in Indonesia. Her expertise spans policy planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of national environmental programs, as well as the development of regulations, guidelines, and institutional frameworks.
She has held various strategic leadership positions at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, including Head of Center for Development of Environmental Generation, Director of Environmental Partnership, and Head of Environmental Education and Community Development. Throughout her career, she has played a key role in advancing social forestry programs, environmental education initiatives, CSR implementation, and multi-stakeholder partnerships involving government institutions, local communities, private sector actors, and academia.
In addition to her government service, she has extensive experience as a freelance consultant and certified environmental auditor for ISO 14001, as well as a non-permanent lecturer. She holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Indonesia and a Master’s degree in Urban Environmental Management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. Her professional background reflects a strong commitment to sustainable development, environmental governance, and community empowerment.
